1972 RS Z28
1972 was an important year for the early 2nd Generation Camaros. This year was the final year of arguably Chevrolet’s marquee small block engine, the LT1. The engine was as masterpiece and buyers were please to have at least one more of this exciting powertrain before the tame L82 350 for 1973 and 1974 was offered.
1971 RS Z28
Chevrolet’s second production year of the Camaro was shortened by a GM strike which limited the Camaro, Firebird and many other lines and multiple plants. 1971 also marked an important year as this was the last year of Camaro production at the Los Angeles/Van Nuys plant. This example was meticulously constructed by the Joey Gray team and features the marquee LT1, with compression lowered from 11:1 in 1970 to 9:1, identical outside of that change netting 330HP. This particular build is from the Norwood, Ohio plant, is a true Z28, also features the popular Rally Sport (RS) package which changes the front end of the Camaro with the split bumper look. While Joey still retains the original automatic 3-speed Turbo 400 transmission, he elected the put in a 4-speed M21 close-ratio because, well, it’s just more fun to shift!
